- Our Impressions
- Located in the same plaza with Monkeypods, Oao (pronounced ‘wow’) is quite different than Koiso (mentioned earlier) and may be more familiar to occasional sushi eaters. It would be perfectly at home in Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks or West LA. The vibe is really cool featuring indoor and outdoor (sidewalk) seating. The fish quality is good and they offer lots of variety in both cooked and raw dishes. We started with edamame and shishito peppers, then had their black cod and seafood dynamite from the kitchen. Next, we ordered their spicy Hamachi (yellowtail) carpaccio which was really good. We ended on an assortment of nigiri (sushi) and cut rolls including the rainbow, king dragon, and spicy tuna roll. All were really good but the prices were much higher than we expected, so be aware before you reserve a table. They do have a happy hour menu that is slightly discounted, but it’s still fairly pricey.
